Frans Post <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frans_Post> (1612-1680) was a
Dutch painter from Haarlem belonging to the Dutch School
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_School_(painting)>. Between 1636-1644,
he received a commission from John Maurice of Nassau
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Maurice,_Prince_of_Nassau-Siegen>, then
governor of Brazil, to travel to Brazil and document its people, nature and
landscape. During his time in Brazil, Post made drawings and sketches of
animals, which he probably used as studies for his paintings. Thirty-four
of these drawings were recently discovered in the Noord-Hollands Archief.

Frans Post <https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frans_Post> (1612-1680) was een
Haarlemse schilder uit de Hollandse School
<https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hollandse_School>. Van 1636 tot 1644 reisde
hij in opdracht van Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen
<https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johan_Maurits_van_Nassau-Siegen> naar
Brazilië om daar de bevolking, de natuur en het landschap vast te leggen.
In deze periode maakte hij onder andere schetsen en tekeningen van dieren.
Deze gebruikte hij waarschijnlijk later als studies voor zijn schilderijen.
Recent zijn 34 van deze tekeningen in het Noord-Hollands Archief
